In a recent article in Sfist.com, Jay Barmann discusses the ongoing legal battle to over the classification collaborative economy income entrepreneurs as employees. 

"A federal judge struck a blow to the business models of "ride-sharing" companies like Uber and Lyft by suggesting that it's not legal to treat drivers as independent contractors, and the companies may be on the hook for benefits, reimbursed expenses, and a minimum wage."

If Uber and Lyft lose this battle, they will fold and consumers will end up losing as well.
