In a recent article for TechCrunch, Sarah Perez (@sarahintampa) reveals the new functions and features of Google Play. Screenshots show an updated mobile interface which offers improved navigation, fun animations, and easier ways to switch between apps. This updated interface is a few weeks away from being available.

Perez suspects that Google will wait until more customers have the updated version of the interface before they make a statement. From the screenshots, we can see that the Google logo has been updated while the homepage of Google Play has content organized into either “Entertainment” or “Apps & Games.” There also appears to be a new “highlights” row that features the best new gadgets in Apps and Entertainment.

The storefront now also incorporates horizontal scrolling to browse through the listings,  designed to make exploration and discovery much easier. It’s also been noted that right-to-left languages will now be supported in the storefront.

The Apps tab is much more identifiable because of the elements of the Android green shade while the Entertainment tab incorporates a mix of a few colors. Since this rollout is slower, some users will receive the update before others. When asked for an ETA, Google declined to answer.

This updated design seems to address the concerns that surrounded the previous versions of Google Play like the clutter and inconvenient steps to reach the features. Users will now be able to move into the right category with just a few taps or swipes.

While we can’t tell much more as yet, there is much to anticipate and we can’t wait to see the results of the new interface when it is released!
