There are almost one million people who will be staying at a home using Airbnb on any given night this summer, according to CEO Brian Chesky (@bchesky). At Re/code’s annual Code Conference on May 26th Chesky said:
“Just tonight, more people are staying in Airbnbs than are staying in the city of Miami.”
Within just 7 years, Airbnb was valued at $13 billion in October of 2014, and continues to grow at a rapid pace. During the World Cup in Brazil, about 20% or 120,000 of the attendees stayed with Airbnb. Recently Airbnb spread to Cuba, a country that just recently was off limits to American tourists. This goes to show there are no limits to Airbnb’s reach. Chesky says next up is Antarctica and the North Pole!
There’s no denying they have a good thing going. Additional locations are popping up on a regular basis, and it looks like they’re becoming more and more exotic. The convenience and authenticity factor is key to their success, which is the pinnacle of the collaborative economy. We’re excited to see where they go from here, as long as they focus on making each guest experience a success as they grow, there’s no stopping them.
