Let’s get tweeting! It sounds ridiculous doesn’t it? Social media Twitter in particular, has changed the way businesses hire their potential workers. Job-hunting is tough, especially living here in the Bay Area. The traditional hand in resumes are on the way out and sources such as LinkeIn and Twitter are the new ways companies use to find their potential employees.
“Surveys reveal that 94% of recruiters use social media in their recruiting efforts, and at least 78% of recruiters have hired through social media.”
Ashley Stahl (@AshleyStahl) gives us 5 tips for landing a job and how powerful Twitter has become in the marketplace.
- Brand your twitter
Your account is a reflection of you. Personalize it to show your best attributes. Share content that ties in with your views and is relevant to your profession.
- Potential companies
Be optimistic is what people say right? Create a list of companies you potentially want to work for in the future and try to connect with them. Who knows, they may come across your page and like what they see.
- Key contact
Connections are huge for landing a job. Even with a Master’s in Business, that doesn’t guarantee a job right out of the gate. For example, if you know someone in the HR department at a company. You are able to hear about a job opening before it even hits the market.
- Be interactive
It’s a two way street. You can’t expect everyone to support you if you ignore them. Tweet with your followers, respond to their posts, and make it known that you aren’t just some robot tweeting stuff out. Creating interaction helps build your space in the marketplace.
- Let twitter be your guide
Don’t be afraid to explore. Hashtags are what Twitter is all about. Click on different ones to see what you can come across. For example #jobsearch or #entrylevel are great ones to look for. These can potentially lead you to the job you are looking for or even just a new connection.
Let’s create a Twitter now, right? I certainly will be after this. Especially if you are new to the space as I am being a college student, I want to make as many connections as I can to land a potential job. It’s amazing how much Social Media has taken over the business world and as a millennial, I feel it works to our advantage. Get started using a Twitter account and create that network that will help you in the future.
