In the old days, you could order pizza or Chinese food and have it delivered to your doorstep. It was a special treat to curl up with a movie, indulge in some comfort food and shun the outside world. Nowadays just about everything is on-demand. This convenience is changing the way people consume, but is it for the better? In an article for TechCrunch, Megan Rose Dickey (@meganrosedickey) announces yet another partnership to make our lives easier.
Postmates, mostly known for delivering food from restaurants, has partnered with Walgreens to offer its products in over 600 states where stores are located. For a flat delivery fee of 4.99, you can order from a catalog of over 500 of the most popular items from the mega-chain drugstore.
I think the convenience aspect of this partnership is appealing. Purchasing items at Walgreens, especially when you’re sick, is annoying to say the least. How convenient would it be to order over-the-counter medicine or everyday staples online or through an app and have them delivered to your door?
On the other hand, I wonder if on-demand will create a culture of shut-ins. I pondered this question in an article I wrote a few months ago. With Walgreens now on-demand, there is one less reason to leave the house, but is it making us even more anti-social?
