Airbnb Creates Memorable Experiences through Employee Engagement
Golden Ashby | February 8, 2016

Airbnb creates memorable experiences for their employees in many ways. They have an inspiring, healthy and satisfying food program, providing their employees with the latest technology and make certain their workspaces are set-up to optimize employee satisfaction. Airbnb does an awesome job of driving the company’s health and happiness and you can tell everybody has a lot of fun doing it.
We blogged about Brian Solis discussing customer experiences last month and this goes hand in hand with that concept. If you have happy and satisfied employees, it only makes sense that they will strive to make certain their customers are happy and satisfied as well. Employee engagement boosts performance in a number of key areas. Everything from productivity to product quality to customer satisfaction is improved when organizations focus on addressing the needs of their staff.
Airbnb’s office is an open-floor plan and creates a welcoming culture for its employees and potential job candidates. Many say it’s similar to working from home at the office. Mark Levy, Airbnb’s global head of employee experience, had this to say in a Forbes interview,
“At Airbnb we are focused on bringing to life our mission of creating a world where you can belong anywhere, by creating memorable workplace experiences which span all aspects of how we relate to employees, including how we recruit them, develop them, the work environment we create with them, the type of volunteer experiences we offer them, and the food we share together.”
If you take a look at the 95% Airbnb employee approval rating reviews on Glassdoor that speaks much louder than anything I could write,
“One of the most collaborative, innovative, and exciting places to work!”
“It’s True, Best Place to Work.”
The list goes on and on. Airbnb uses it’s awesome employee feedback to continuously improve their recruiting and human resource management process to be more in line with these new welcoming attitudes. Airbnb’s HR department even went as far as applying for job openings with competitors to see how they were treated during the interview process. They obviously are making great efforts to have a friendly and warm personality -- and it pays off. We are excited to see if more companies follow Airbnb’s example in creating the ultimate employee experience.
