What we know about millennials is that they’re among the first generations to be digitally native. They’re able to adapt instantly and effectively to almost any type of  technology. Give a millennial a foreign technological device or program, and in a matter of minutes, they’ll be able to figure out its use, the various functions, and its purpose. That being said, we’ve seen millennials entering and striving in the workforce. Many companies as of late, are showing a higher interest in young, technologically advanced individuals for hire as opposed to older generations. But what does this mean for non-millennials? Are their jobs at stake to a tech-savvy, fresh out of college 25 year old? Solis gives us insight on his personal experience working with millennials.

Of course with anything, there is good and there's bad. Some millennials Solis has worked with are bright, innovative individuals who contribute immensely to businesses, while others are the exact opposite. Taking for granted their label in their age group, Solis has encountered millennials who over glamorize their title and from there, obtain a sense of higher importance than others. This ties in to the question of whether businesses need to staff their open job positions with millennials in order to succeed. Yes, millennials are a trending topic, but Solis advises businesses hiring solely millennials to rethink their decision, as it may be an over glamorized trend, where many Gen X and baby boomers are left out of a job.

While millennials may be the hot new trend in the business world, they may not be the best solution for every business. Screen applicants individually, and determine the best fit for your business, as you would during any hiring process. There is no assurance that millennials are smarter, better equipped, or will deliver superior results to your business than other generations. Always keep in mind, what’s trending now, may not be trending tomorrow. Don’t base important decisions on what everyone else is doing, but base it on what will be best for your business in the long run.
